Subxiphoid single-incision thoracoscopic surgery for bilateral primary spontaneous pneumothorax

چکیده
It has been reported that single-incision thoracoscopic surgery can reduce postoperative pain without compromising the main surgical steps required for treating patients affected by primary spontaneous pneumothorax. However, all the reported thoracoscopic surgery cases with a single-incision procedure were via the intercostal route for unilateral pulmonary lesions. We present a novel single-incision thoracoscopic technique via a subxiphoid route to perform one-stage bilateral thoracoscopic surgery for bilateral spontaneous pneumothorax. Reduced postoperative pain, shorter operative time, and better cosmetic results are potential benefits of this technique in selected patients. The subxiphoid single-incision procedure may be indicated in patients with bilateral pulmonary lesions requiring surgical resections.

Single stage minimally invasive bilateral video assisted thoracoscopic surgery for simultaneous bilateral primary spontaneous pneumothorax.
Simultaneous bilateral spontaneous pneumothorax (SBSP) is a very rare life-threatening condition that requires rapid diagnosis and treatment. Most cases are secondary to various underlying lung pathology but a primary SBSP may occur due to rupture of subpleural blebs or bullae. Surgery via an open or minimally invasive approach provides definitive treatment and can be undertaken as a staged or ...
متن کاملSingle-staged uniportal VATS in the supine position for simultaneous bilateral primary spontaneous pneumothorax
BACKGROUND Simultaneous bilateral primary spontaneous pneumothorax (SBPSP) is rare, but requires surgery on both sides, in patients with definite bilateral bullae to prevent life-threatening conditions. Recently, uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) has been widely accepted as a less invasive technique for the treatment of pneumothorax. Thus, we introduced single-staged uniport...
متن کاملBilateral primary spontaneous pneumothorax in an otherwise-healthy overweight young man
Bilateral primary spontaneous pneumothorax (BPSP) is a rare condition, accounting for ∼1.6% of spontaneous pneumothoraces. Patients with primary spontaneous pneumothorax have typically low body weight. BPSP in overweight/obese patients is an exceptionally rare event. The present report describes a case of an otherwise-healthy 20-year-old male patient with BMI 29.8 kg/m(2) presented to our hospi...
متن کاملInitial Experience of Single-Incision Thoracoscopic Surgery for 100 Patients with Primary Spontaneous Pneumothorax.
PURPOSE The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate single-incision thoracoscopic surgery (SITS) for primary spontaneous pneumothorax (PSP). METHODS Among 141 patients who underwent surgery for PSP from July 2009 to December 2013, a total of 100 patients underwent SITS. Their data were examined for clinical characteristics and surgical results. RESULTS More patients with younger age...
متن کامل[Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery for spontaneous pneumothorax].
OBJECTIVE To explore the operational procedures, indications, and the long-term results of video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) in the treatment of spontaneous pneumothorax. METHODS One hundred seventy three cases of spontaneous pneumothorax treated with VATS in our hospital between 1995 and 2001 were analyzed. Primary spontaneous pneumothorax (PSP) was found in 157 cases and secondary...
